Playlists come to Pentaton

While we’re big on album-based listening, there is no denying that many people love their playlists. In version 1.7, we finally added the ability to create and manage playlists in Pentaton.

What took us so long

Playlists sound easy on the surface, but we wanted to make sure our implementation plays well with our folder-based navigation and blazing fast syncronizing mechanism. it’s great if you can play a list with 30 tracks, but we wanted to make sure you can play and shuffle 30.000 tracks too.

In the end, we’re really proud of what we’ve shipped. Pentaton automatically scans and includes all playlists in the m3u, pls or xspf formats, making sure to exclude all those “album playlists” that cd-ripping software create. You can of course edit them too and all your changes are automatically synced back to the playlists files. This way, your music library, including your playlists, are not tied to Pentaton at all, and you can enjoy it freely in other apps if you wish.

Playlists can also be created within Pentaton and you can decide if you prefer to keep a file copy as well or if you’re okay with your playlist just living in the app.
